Contact Lens Exam in Holmdel
When you have trouble seeing clearly, contact lenses can correct your vision without the need for wearing eyeglasses. If you prefer wearing contacts instead of eyeglasses, it is important to get the right prescription and make sure that your new contact lenses fit properly.
At Marshall EyeCare Physicians, our optometrist can provide you with a contact lens exam.
Contact Lens Prescription
Contact lenses need to have an updated prescription in order to correct your vision as much as possible. Our optometrist checks your eyes using a refraction test, which helps determine your prescription. Once you have your prescription, you can choose a new pair of contact lenses to help you see better.
Keep in mind that there are many types to choose from, but our optometrist can help you select the one that is best for your eyes. Depending on your prescription strength and other factors, such as whether you are nearsighted or have astigmatism, you might do better with soft contacts, gas permeable ones, disposable ones or hard to fit contacts.
Contact Lens Fittings
When your contact lenses are ready, you should expect to come in for a fitting before taking them home. This fitting allows our optometrist to make sure that your new contacts fit your eyes comfortably. If any changes need to be made, our optometrist will make a note of them and ensure that these changes are handled. If your contact lenses cause you severe discomfort during your contact lens fitting, please let our optometrist know right away.
Hard to Fit Contacts
Certain eye conditions make it difficult for patients to traditional contact lenses, such as soft ones or semi-rigid gas permeable ones. For example, you might need scleral contact lenses if you have keratoconus or toric contact lenses for astigmatism. You might also need special contacts if you have dry eyes.
These types of eye conditions make it uncomfortable or even impossible to wear regular soft or gas permeable lenses, especially if you need to have them in on a regular basis. Our optometrist will make sure you end up getting contact lenses that you can wear without any significant discomfort if you have one of these eye conditions.
